Cannon Valley Lutheran High School History
In late 1999, interested individuals from Faribault, Janesville, and North Morristown began meeting to consider the feasibility of starting a Lutheran high school. In their discussion, they believed that, if students from both Faribault and Janesville were going to attend, the school should be somewhere in between the two towns. Morristown was selected as the potential stie. In January, 2000, the original group and other interested indidviduals met at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Morrristown, to consider whether the facilities at the church would be sufficient to hold the beginnings of the high school. An agrreement was reached with Bethlehem Lutheran, and planning began in earnest.
In the spring of 2000, the group put together a constitution and by-laws for the new high school, and voted to open the doors in the fall of 2000. Mr. Douglas Mierow of Prior Lake, MN, was called to serve as the first administrator. Missouri Synod congregations in the area were encouraged to join the high school association and support the beginning of the school. Eight congregations joined the association initially. The school was named Cannon Valley Lutheran High, and classes began in September for Ninth and Tenth grades with a total of 13 students enrolled. Eleventh grade was added in the 2001-2002 school year. Ten seniors made up the first graduating class in May 2003.
Currently there are 47 students in the four classes. The staff includes one administrator, one part time teacher/principal, three full time teachers, three part time teachers, five pastors who assist by teaching religion classes, a secretary, and other volunteers who help with extra curricular activities. The Association is currently comprised of Eleven area LC-MS congregations.
